When I die I want to be cremated. My father was cremated, and I first had a difficult time accepting that his body was gone. After I saw him, as cliche as it sounds, I realized that his body was what remained, and that wasn't even him. It didn't even look like him. I think cremating allows for us to be spread wherever we want, and to be remembered in a place other than a hole in the ground. I want my ashes to spread in the field behind my house, where my dad's were spread, just so I can be with him. I remember he told me at dinner one night that he wanted his ashes spread on what we call "The Sound of Music Hill", the pasture behind our barn. I laughed at him, but that's what we did. And I think I can feel ok that his body was used the way he wanted. I hope others can feel that way about me.
