Donato washes dishes with limited amount of suds
It was a scary moment last night at the Donato household, as Elisabeth Donato, an Associate Professor of French at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and the mother of Clarion Donato who catalogs books at the Caliban bookshop in Pittsburgh, came close to running out of dish detergent as she was doing her after-dinner dishes.
"I am a faithful user of Palmolive OxyPlus with oxygenated cleaning action, a dish liquid that is so concentrated that I failed to notice that my 25 oz bottle was nearly emply," stated Donato as she related the incident. "I am not one of those people who, like my mother who lived through WWII in France, stocks up on soap and cleaning products." Donato added that she had been busy planning for a trip to French Canada, and had forgotten to buy a new bottle of her favorite dish detergent.
It did get a little iffy, because she had had a delightful meal of Thai curried stir-fried vegetables and basmati rice with baked salmon. As a result, there were pots and pans that demanded special attention on that particular night. SOS pads came to the rescue and, in the end, there was just enough Palmolive OxyPlus to handle Donato's salad plate - the last item to end up in her dish rack.
"I had to strategize, and use whatever detergent was left in the most efficient manner. But, first thing in the morning, I am going to the supermarket to buy a new bottle of Ultra Palmolive OxyPlus, or I'll be in real trouble when time comes to do the dishes tomorrow evening."
Donato, a baby-boomer who does not believe in dishwashers, has been washing dishes by hand since she was a child. She has been known to run out of dish-liquid detergent occasionally.
