LOCAL MAN ONCE AGAIN MAKES PERFECT AMOUNT OF COFFEE
Baltimore, Maryland, USA
Aug. 24, 2007
This morning, to his own utter surprise, local editor and former teacher Charlie DeVore made precisely the right amount of coffee. This event, despite its burgeoning regularity, was surprising for two reasons. Firstly, Mr. DeVore is not a very precise guy in terms of volume. He often buys far too much beer, or pours himself a glass of water only to find he's finished it before he even sits down on the couch. Secondly, Mr. DeVore prepares the coffee and sets the timer on his machine in the evening, before bed. He is most often tired at this time, and not given to close attention to detail.
The volume of coffee, which Mr. DeVore described as "probably somewhere between the '7' and '8' markings on the carafe", perfectly fills two blue insulated travel mugs, belonging to Mr. DeVore and his wife Myndi. When asked how much water might evaporate from the coffee maker over the night time hours and during the early morning brewing, Mr. DeVore said, "I don't know, probably only a little. I didn't even think of that."
Mrs. DeVore was impressed with the flavor of the coffee, but the perfect amount took her by surprise. "[Charlie] really knows how to make a great pot of coffee," she said earlier today.
Mr. DeVore has made exactly the right amount of coffee on four of the last five mornings, and is hoping that this trend will continue for the foreseeable future.
