To the teenaged Muse, approximately 15 or 16:
1. Keep doing well in school. It'll get you far. No, math will never be your strong suit. It won't matter, except in college. And even then, not for very long. The outside world lets you use calculators and approximations.
2. DON'T IM HIM. If you feel that you must, then keep it ONLINE. Failure to do so will gain you a friend, but at the danger of years (YEARS) of headache and heartache.
3. Continue to be accepting. Some people see this as indecisiveness. It's really curiosity to its best degree. This acceptance of everyone will allow you to gain friends from all walks of life.
4. Accept yourself more. If you can accept everyone else, why the hell not yourself?
5. Bran wasn't the one. That's okay.
To Muse, approximately 17 or 18:
1. Forget Journalism. It isn't your bag. Psychology is. Look into the community college for this major.
2. Don't live with your aunt and uncle. And speak up about the weird vibes you get from said uncle.
3. If you forego advice number 1 and/or 2, you will end up going back home after a year in the wrong college and at the wrong residence. It's okay. You reconnect with your best friend and gain another by doing so.
To Muse, age 19 going on 20:
1. THAT one will bring you love. But he will also bring you heartache and lies. And he will lie. Even to you. Especially to you.
2. If you feel you must, then at least tell people about it. Yes, it feels like they expect you to remain a certain way. The fact is that you won't stay that way, and it's better to let them know at that point.
3. Make sure you go to the Dido concert the year you're supposed to turn 20. You will be introduced to a singer/songwriter who will change your life.
4. Be careful on the road. Accidents happen. Especially on a crowded highway on Memorial Day weekend. While we're at it, buy a better fucking car.
To Muse, ages 20 through 23:
1. Get the fuck over him.
2. Get your ass back in school and stay there.
3. This Bran might not have been the one either. But at least ask him. Before she does.
To Muse, age 24 going on 25:
1. Don't quit the hospital. You will get more money at the HR job, but you will feel it kills your soul and will resent it. Money does not buy happiness. You know this. Stop pretending that you don't.
