Advice to 13-14 year old Margaret
- You are not determined by whom you are dating.
- If people didn't like you and didn't notice you before they won't like you and won't notice you if you change yourself.
- Stop watching boring films.
- Don't bother shopping at the shopping centre, it's all very cheap clothing made in China anyway.
- You are worth it.
- Take more chances.
- Do not imagine love will find you, it wouldn't know where to look because you are totally and completely hidden.
- Force mummy to buy those railway tickets for Carrie, you need the companionship.
- Talk to him, hiding will never work and you'll probably never see him again.
- Apply for that scholarship, you can only apply that year and your father will not be interested in sending you there on his own terms.
- Go to the university and advertise the fact that you want a tennis coach. A year or so later you will be regretting your horrid lack of skills in this sport.
- Don't be ashamed of who you are. This will later contribute to the fact that you think you are lower class than you actually are.
- Make father buy that chateau, if not for mere property value.
- Sew more often.
- Cook more often, you love doing it and it's a lot healthier than that rubbish you buy. It'll also relieve stress on mum.
- You are twice as fashionable as every other child in that stupid town. In fact, what you were wearing then appeared in Vogue next month.
- Talk.
- Don't take such extensive notes.
- I don't know what her problem was but when Kat starts telling you that she hates you and that you're barbaric tell her to shut-up and don't let her say anything mean to your darling little sister.
- Go shopping more often in that boutique, you're chock-r-block full of money.
- Sorry to repeat 9 - but just talk to him. It won't hurt you and even if he's rude at least you shall've known, rather than still wondering about it later.
