My advice to Kristy at 17
1. You are a wonderful person even if you do not realize it now. You have so much to offer. Realize that and make the most of your life.
2. Stop trying to find love with sex. It will not happen. The boys you have been dating - Anthony, David, James - don't love you and never will. Someone must love you for you, not what you have to offer.
3. It is not the good looking exciting boy that will hold your heart so careful to make sure it doesn't break. It is the boy that has always been there, the not so gorgeous one that is so, so sweet. The one that makes sure your alright, brings you that special candy when you have had a bad day, and just sits and holds you while you watch a movie. He is the one that will cherish your heart as if it was his.
4. Realize that Donny loves you for you. If you decided not to date Donny at 16, date him at 20. And stay with him! He is the one that has always treated you right, even though you have never had sex with him. If you don't you will regret it the rest of your life. Especially when you have gone through two bad marriages and know that Donny, the one you know you should be with, is dead. You will realize later in life that what he gives you is worth more than anything in the world - the feeling that you are important and special, that someone cares about your feelings first, and that no matter what happens he will always be there.
5. Do better in school. You are smart but you don't apply yourself because you want to be the social one - the fun one.
6. Never let anyone take advantage of you, manipulate you or mistreat you. Stand up for yourself and walk out of that relationship at the first sight of mistreatment. You are too wonderful to let someone make you feel like garbage.
7. Be self-sustaining. Never depend on someone else to provide for you. Always have money to get out on your own.
8. Most of all - always believe in yourself. One day you will have wonderful children that you will love more than anything else in the world and they will believe in you. Transfer that belief in yourself to them so they can believe in themselves!
