Advice to Diane at age 17:
1. Do better in high school. You are very intelligent. Stop worrying about the boys. The boys will always be there. High school won't. Work hard enough to get a scholarship.
2. Stop worrying that there is something wrong with the way you look. You are pretty. You may not always be pretty. Leave it alone and work on becoming friendly, funny, anything else.
3. Talk to your dad as much as possible. He may not want to speak to you in a few years.
4. Stop hanging out with J. She just pulls you down, makes you feel ugly and worthless. There will be much better friends in the future.
5. Journal every day.
6. Keep playing with that video camera. It may pay off someday. Even if it doesn't, you will have a lot of memories.
7. Maybe you are "too honest" and a little blunt sometimes, but don't stop standing up for what you believe in. People admire your convictions.
8. As cliche as this sounds, life is short. Stop worrying.
9. Stop stressing about who is popular and who is not. It really won't matter in a couple of years and you will never see them again.
10. Stop being embarassed about going to Target. In a few years, you will be going there all of the time and loving it.
11. Love your mom more. She raised you alone from the time you were 11. She deserves more than how you treat her. Say, "I'm sorry."
12. Enjoy all of the times that you are up there on stage singing, dancing, acting. You may not do it ever again and regret it.
13. Stop procrastinating! Do it now!
14. It will all turn out fine. Believe that.
