Advice to Dana at age 16
9th grade
1- Talk to boys and don't be embarrassed. It's ok to have a silly little crush, or paint your nails too much, it'll just be more to look back upon later and laugh about how stupid it was
2- Wear your hair down. Dress how you choose to and do what YOU want.
10th grade
3- Don't wait until your senior year to realize that high school isn't just about the class work. Yes, do your best in school, but high school is a chance for you to learn about yourself, make stupid mistakes, and enjoy your experiences and relationships with people you may not ever see again.
11th grade
4- Work harder than you thought you ever could in your classes. It may keep you from some sleep, but it will be more than worth it if you can pull off 4's on your AP exams. They will exempt you from worthless/boring classes in college known as "general education requirements."
12th grade
5- Find a date to prom. Even if you have to ask someone, don't wait until it's too late. It's your last event in high school and will be more enjoyable to share with a friend.
6- Go out on a weeknight. Take a day once in awhile to just go out to breakfast with friends. The more you do, the more you learn. Experiences give you fun stories to share, and stupid little memories to look back and laugh on.
Freshmen year at UB
7- Be yourself and don't be scared to stick up for yourself (when meeting new people and making new friends, talk with pride, be truthful, and don't change to fit in) b/c those ppl that will end up being your friends will respect you for who you are
8- Naps are a tease. Stay away from them at all possible.
9- Stay in contact with those you are close with. It's easy to get caught up in college and all it has to offer, but make time to pick up your phone and call an old friend.
10- Use your phone to talk...not facebook.
11- Avoid drama at all costs. It's immature...it's high school...and it's a waste of time.
12- If you see someone all the time and they always seem to make you smile, don't hesitate to get to know them before it's too late. Just ask yourself, why not? You never know - people surprise you.
