Dear Julia D,
It's been a while since I've seen or heard from you, but that doesn't mean you haven't been around.
It's awkward to admit that such a brief encounter could instigate such a lasting influence, but after years of having this secret admiration for you, I think it's best that I let you know.
In all honesty, I can't even be sure that the 'you' that I admire is, in reality, even you. There is so little that I know about you given our few interactions. I must admit that there must be a certain amount of mythologizing taking place; I have turned what I have experienced from you into the sum of your entire being, and from that you symbolize many qualities that I would like manifest in myself. From the brief interactions I was taken by your control of any situation- an undeniable presence in any scene. Yet your control was not in any way overbearing, but instead filled with generosity, energy, and a positive practicality.
It was this combination of assertiveness and consideration that makes others that you have touched excited about the way the world works and has since made me carry you around in my head, ready to be applied in any situation that I felt needed the ÔJulia' in me.
So thanks for the way you appeared on the city street; for your working hard while hosting guests; and for telling me I wasn't being proactive enough.
x,
Ric
