Find an old chair or table or other piece of furniture that has become dilapidated beyond the point of repair. It should have already begun its return journey, back into nature, any hardware having been lost long ago, and its wood already crumbling, brittle or on the verge of decay. Hasten this process by placing it out of doors, in an unsheltered space where wind and rain can wreak their havoc on its artifice, dismantle its fabric. Encourage birds and insects to frequent it by scattering seeds and rotting boughs about it, and allow filth, or rather grime, organic, but not putrescent, to gather on its surfaces and in its folds.
Then photograph it once each year until it has been entirely reabsorbed into the world from which it was wrested, so rudely, by human hands.
