This scared me so much as a child that I hated to enter the living room, where it was kept. The figures in it all have real hair. Real hair! My grandmother rescued it from a church in the Philippines and gave it to my mother. (Only now that I've just typed that last sentence do I realize that I have no idea what that actually means, it's just what my mom has always said. Why on earth would Catholic iconography need to be "rescued" from a church in the Philippines, one of the most Catholic countries ever?) |
