1. I won 3rd place in the school talent show for playing "Scarborough Fair" on the piano. Danielle, a clogger, took 2nd.
2. Jealousy consumed me. How could someone who stomped around on a piece of corrugated cardboard beat a song I memorized and played without even one mistake? Did the judges even notice the pretty red dress I was wearing?
3. Several weeks later, there was a fire in one of the apartments down the street from school. It was Danielle's apartment. Everyone but her older sister died.
4. Guilt consumed me. How could I have had such bad thoughts about a girl who was so sweet and such a talented clogger? I prayed to God to forgive me, and to tell her in Heaven that I was sorry.
5. For a long time after, every time I heard Phil Collins' "Against All Odds" I would think of Danielle and cry.
