1. Four years into the Iran-Iraq War. Every time a plane flies over our house in Saudi, Dad looks worried.
2. Jason Pocock writes "Jenny is a crazy, air-headed maniac" on a piece of paper with a dry-erase marker. I am devastated. I am in the third grade, and I have been pursuing him relentlessly since kindergarten.
3. First appearance of obsession with objects in groups of three. Can't stop counting floor tiles in school bathroom.
4. All year I forge my mother's signature on homework slips indicating I've studied my multiplication tables. Motivation for our class is we will get to watch "Starman" with the other third-grade classes at the end of the year. Megan is honest and misses some slips. The day we all get to cross the hall and sit on the carpet in front of a VCR, she brings brownies for us, which we eat while she sits in Miss Clarke's classroom by herself. For years, I am overwhelmed with guilt.
5. I write my first book, "Mr. Talkative," a la Roger Hargreaves. Main character is self-absorbed and never learns why he chases everyone away. Drawings start out strong and detailed, get more rushed and simplified toward end.
