The small town we lived in had a huge 4th of July celebration which started with a parade - mostly floats made out of chicken-wire stuffed with Kleenex and spray painted, along with a very rural assortment of farm animals in costume, tractors and combines decorated with crepe paper, antique cars and kids pulling their pets in wagons. The parade went up Main Street, turned around and came back again. Everyone said it was so you could see both sides of the floats, but it was also a way to make the parade last longer than 20-30 minutes.
