I was digging in the sand a few inches off the shore of Aitutaki in the Cook Islands when I was jabbed byÊa stonefish. The dorsal fin went all the way through my right indexÊfinger and stuck out the other side,Êinjecting poison into my finger which proceeded to turnÊmy hand blackÊand blue before my eyes.ÊTo make a long story short, theÊdaughter of a supposed Maori witch doctorÊcured meÊwithÊa hot milky extract from theÊbark of a Frangipani tree. Not much of a scar remains, but my fingerprint has been altered and does not have any feeling left in it.
