On a climbing trip to France last year, my roommate injured his wrist. While climbing a large, overhanging route of limestone, his belayer...dropped him. He had his wrist x-rayed at a French hospital. They told him it was a bad sprain and he could not climb for the rest of the trip. He didn't go home right away. He traveled Europe for 2.5 months, and then returned home. He had it x-rayed again when he got back, and found that instead of a bad sprain, it was actually broken in three places. One year, a titanium bolt, a nice scar and a 15,000 hospital bill later, he's climbing again.
