We had been at a party of a friend neither of us had seen for years. We had drank too much. I got up at 3am to go to the toilet. On the way back to my bedroom I began collecting my clean washing from the radiators in the kitchen and hallway. There was a huge force against my right foot and a loud thud. My foot felt like 80 bees were stinging it. It was confusing to know had happened in the dark. I put the light on and called my flat mate to "come and see what I've done." I had walked into the glass of a broken clip frame that had been balancing against the wall. It had sliced the top and side of my foot in a U shape. There was so much blood. My flat mate grabbed some of my underwear off the radiator, firstly asking if they were "good knickers or not" which I found amusing. She pressed them on my foot and sat me down. She took me to hospital despite my plea to return to bed. I got cross with her in the car for me not having any shoes on. I had 10 stitches. The 4 injections into the cut were the worse. I had not really felt the pain until that point. The doctor said to me "most of the casualties we get in here on a Friday and Saturday night are due to alcohol." I pulled myself together and tried hard to look sincere and sober, "really?"
