This is my friend Donnie Smith. Donnie was born with only three chambers in his heart. He is missing his right ventricle. Right after he was born the doctors rushed him to Emory Hospital in Atlanta. They wanted to do a surgery called the Fontan Procedure. It would have been better for them to wait until Donnie was older, but they did not know if Donnie would make it. The doctors attempted to go in through Donnie's back near his shoulder blade so they would not have to break any of his ribs. This method failed and they had to do the surgery on the other side shortly after. Donnie survived the surgery but the doctors gave him about 10 years to live. He is now 19 years old and attends Kennesaw State University.
